Campania, markets closed, supermarkets open, queues at supermarkets, barriers at local markets

With Ordinance No. 7/2021, the President of the Campania Region ordered the closure of local markets, even if they sell basic necessities. This is a completely discriminatory act against a sector where other commercial operators with the same ATECO code are still fully operational.

It is not clear why a local shop or a large supermarket, where crowds are very likely, can continue to operate while the shops inside the local markets must close. The citizens who go to the local markets are generally those who make minimal, targeted purchases, who do not have how to move around, often elderly people who are not even familiar with calling for home delivery. Supporting local trade, already severely affected by the restrictions of government decrees, does not seem to be a priority for De Luca and his Council, perhaps too busy dividing up the appointments.

By doing so, we are only encouraging online shopping to the detriment of our small and historic retailers. This is what the Vice President of the National Assembly of FdI, Marco CERRETO, said. Now the demagogy of Palazzo Santa Lucia should explain to the citizens of Campania what sense there is in keeping supermarkets open and closing markets. And yes, because the local markets have an entrance and an exit with an attached area for toilets, practically a similar supermarket. But the regional ordinance has closed all the markets. Result: very long queues, at supermarkets and nearby shops. It is serious to force users to wait in endless lines at the markets, the Region should reconsider. Furthermore, the ordinance provides for the opening of market stalls that have private toilets.

As is known to all, these installations in their design do not include individual toilets for each stall, but structures accessible to users within the same area of the local market. To remedy all this we ask for the intervention of the municipal administration, until now helpless, to arrange the installation of chemical toilets near the commercial stalls. We remain disconcerted by the deafening silence of the ephemeral occupant of Palazzo San Giacomo, already on early vacation in the land of Calabria, to worry about a sector that is fundamental for the life of the city and for the municipal coffers. Thus the exponents of Giorgia MELONI's party, Fratelli d'Italia, Alfredo CATAPANO, Enzo SCHIAVO, Roberto DELLA RAGIONE and the Representative of the Social Right, Rosario LOPA
