Trentola Ducenta. Wild West assault on an armored van in front of the post office: shots fired among people in line, one of the vigilantes injured.
It happened shortly after 9 this morning in Trentola Ducenta. The bandits waited for the arrival of the armored vehicle with the money in front of the central post office, in via Circumvallazione, and fired gunshots, wounding one of the security guards, to take away the loot. The armed commando, apparently composed of at least four bandits, arrived on the scene with a car, and ordered the security guards who were traveling on board the armored vehicle to hand over the cash intended for the post office.
One of the robbers hit the butt of his gun on the head of one of the guards. At a certain point, perhaps due to the reaction of a security guard, the robbers also fired several gunshots, which broke the windows of a car parked on the street, fortunately without hitting any passers-by. The robbers managed to take away part of the money kept in the van, the amount of which is still to be quantified, and fled. Carabinieri and police patrols arrived on the scene within minutes, along with an ambulance from 118 that transported the security guard to the hospital where he was admitted with a head injury.
“A very serious episode in the face of which the competent authorities are, now more than ever, called upon to strengthen security on our territory,” said Mayor Michele Apicella, who also arrived at the scene of the robbery. “As a local authority, having a limited number of local police personnel, we can do very little. I will therefore act as spokesperson to the Prefecture, the Police Headquarters and the other competent authorities,” the mayor concluded, “so that increasingly stringent measures are adopted to ensure greater security for my fellow citizens.”
