Casoria, the Carabinieri recover an endangered Iguana specimen
CASORIA – Exemplary of Iguana at risk of extinction held at the operational headquarters of a consultancy company on workplace safety and hygiene
This is what the military of the CC CITES unit found Napoli together with the ASLNA1 veterinary doctors of the CRIUV – Region Campania.
The specimen, approximately 1,30 m long, was kept in a display case of insufficient dimensions which prevented its natural movements, and also lacked a comfortable microenvironment similar to the original one.
In fact, the animal had a lesion on the tip of its nose (probably due to the impact with the display case), the third toe of its left front paw was irregularly shaped, and a skin lesion (burn) on its left side (due to the impact with the heating lamps placed at the top of the display case without protection).
The reptile, included in Annex “B” to Reg. No. 338/97 and subsequent amendments and in Appendix II of the Washington Convention (CITES), was therefore seized for violation of Articles 727 and 544/ter of the Criminal Code and the owner of the aforementioned company was reported to the competent AG.
The animal was temporarily entrusted to the care of the ASLNA1 – CRIUV veterinarians and then subsequently transferred to a suitable facility.
