A green certificate for local activities, the proposal of the Punta Campanella MPA to the General States of Tourism

The President of the Marine Park, Lucio Cacace, met with Sorrento's Tourism Councilor, Alfonso Iaccarino. The discussion focused on the creation of an eco-brand.

An ecobrand, a green certificate to be issued to local businesses that meet certain eco-sustainability standards. This is the proposal launched byProtected Marine Area of Punta Campanella on the occasion of a meeting within the framework of the States General of Tourism.

The president of the Park, Lucio Cacace, had a long and fruitful conversation last Monday with Alfonso Iaccarino, Councilor for Tourism of the Municipality of Sorrento. Also present were the Councilor for the Environment, Valeria Paladino and the Park's board member, representing Sorrento, Antonino Maresca.
"We hope, first of all, that this period will end soon and that we can finally go back to traveling freely and in complete safety. But in the meantime, we are also looking to the medium and long term - underlines the President of the Punta Campanella MPA, Lucio Cacace - The Marine Protected Area has first of all the institutional task of protecting and preserving the environmental heritage, the natural capital and the biodiversity of our sea. But, at the same time, it can represent an important asset for the valorization of the entire territory in a sustainable way. We can attract a slower type of tourism, more linked to direct contact with nature and respect for the environment. To attract more and more of this type of users, we are thinking of an ecobrand, a sustainability certificate that all the activities in the territory, respectful of certain parameters, could display to encourage the arrival of tourists attentive to these issues".

The idea of the Punta Campanella MPA is to organize training for all the operators in the area, not just the hospitality businesses, and to push them to adopt measures and a series of measures that make them eco-sustainable, with the least possible impact on the environment and the sea. Those who manage to adapt to these parameters will receive, from the Marine Protected Area, a green certificate that can be used on the market and in terms of visibility. A project still in progress that was presented at the meeting last Monday. But with the ambition of extending it to the entire territory of the Sorrento peninsula.

Meanwhile, the Marine Park has signed an agreement with the Circolo Nautico di Marina della Lobra, chaired by notary Giancarlo Iaccarino. The agreement provides that the Marine Protected Area can use the premises of the Club to carry out information and awareness-raising activities in the summer months, to invite tourists and boaters to respect the sea and the Park regulations. In the winter, however, the club can host environmental education activities with schools.

“An important agreement for which I thank the notary Iaccarino and the entire historic circle of Marina Lobra - concludes President Cacace - It will be an important point of reference, close to the sea, for all our activities. The idea is to extend this initiative to the other seaside villages of Massa Lubrense.”
