The DDA's axe falls on the D'Alessandro clan after 30 years: three hundred years in prison.
This is the overall request against about twenty defendants in the old Sigfrido trial that prosecutor Giuseppe Cimmarotta formulated yesterday morning during his closing speech before the Court of Torre Annunziata. The crimes contested date back to the 90s, and among other things some of the charges are close to the statute of limitations. The trial had already been held with heavy sentences in 2004 but cancelled by the Court of Cassation in 2010, which sent all the documents back to the Anti-Mafia Prosecutor's Office of Naples to start again from the preliminary hearing because it had never been held.
In this trial, almost all the collaborators of justice decided not to testify in court. The most severe sentences were requested for the two indicated as the leaders of the two factions that in that period faced each other with excellent deaths.
The prosecutor has in fact asked for 30 years in prison each for Pasquale D'Alessandro, the firstborn of the deceased boss and founder of the Michele D'Alessandro clan, and Raffaele Di Somma, known as o' ninnillo, who had been until that moment one of the most "prolific" killers of the same Scanzano clan. Instead, a sentence of 20 years each has been requested for Luigi Vitale, known as o' mariuolo, Francesco Apadula, known as o' muss, the entrepreneur Ciro Castellano, known as Cirillino, who has been taking refuge in Romania for years where he runs nightclubs with his brother, and then Antonio Rossetti, known as 'o guappone, Carmine Caruso and Alfonso Sicignano.
For Ernesto Mas, Di Somma's partner, the request was 17 years of imprisonment, and 16 years for the repentant Ciro Avella. A 10-year sentence was also requested for Antonio Nocerino, and finally 7 years.
each for Michele Abruzzese, Nicola Martinelli, Maurizio Del Sorbo and Luigi Polito. In the next three hearings the floor will be given to the defense lawyers.
