Naples. Great emotion at the funeral of Ornella Pinto, the 39-year-old victim of femicide, the coffin carried on the shoulders of the Strong Warriors of Health.

A long silence, followed by applause from the crowd, accompanied the exit from the Naples Cathedral of the coffin of the 39-year-old teacher killed during the night between Friday and Saturday by her former partner Pinotto Iacomino. The coffin was carried on the shoulders of the Forti Guerriere, activists from a Neapolitan association that fights to end violence against women and raise awareness about femicide. The association was founded in the aftermath of the death of Marisa Bellisario, who was beaten to death with a crutch by her husband.

At the funeral, celebrated by theArchbishop Domenico Battaglia, friends and some colleagues of Ornella, a teacher at the state art high school in Naples, also participated, as well as the mothers of her 4-year-old son's classmates.

“She was a shy girl, we are all shocked by what happened,” a colleague recalls. The woman’s relatives are devastated. “You will have justice, earthly or divine,” some friends told Ornella’s older sister. The request to the media is to treat the case with greater discretion. Just over 150 people attended the funeral to comply with anti-contagion regulations. Also in the church was Naples City Councilor Alessandra Celemente. There was great emotion when Ornella’s coffin came out, among relatives and friends. None of the family members wanted to make statements to the press. The journalists, as requested, remained outside the Duomo.

“Please, don’t write anything, I beg you. So many false things have been said.” So Valeria, Ornella Pinto’s younger sister, addressed a reporter, at the end of the funeral. “You have written false things. I have never used the term beast when speaking about her husband. Now, I beg you. Don’t write anything anymore.” There is resentment towards journalists by the family of the professor killed by her ex-husband. Reporters and operators were not allowed into the Cathedral at the request of the family. When the coffin came out, however, there was no tension, only emotion.

Outside the church, many are calling for no reduction in sentence for Pippotto Iacomino, the woman's 43-year-old ex-husband. After stabbing Ornella Pinto 15 times, Iacomino fled to Terni, where he later turned himself in to the Montegabbione Carabinieri station. He is now in prison for voluntary homicide.

As the coffin, held only by women, came out, there was emotion and a long round of applause.

Naples, Ornella Pinto's murder: life sentence confirmed
