“In the last week, from 22/02 to 28/02, in the city of Naples the increase in Covid-19 cases compared to the previous week, from 15/02 to 21/02, was 49%.
This increase is evident in all age groups with higher values in the 14-75 age group. The current picture is one of extreme concern”.
This is the worrying picture that emerges from the report “Epidemiological trend update from August 1 to February 28, 2021” made known by the Municipality of Naples and published on the Authority's website. The work was coordinated by Professor Giuseppe Signoriello (Medical Statistics Unit, Luigi Vanvitelli University of Campania) by Simona Signoriello and Vittorio Simeon with the collaboration of Francesca Menna, Health Councilor of the Municipality of Naples.
In the general analysis of the report, a situation now out of control and an exponential increase in cases among the youngest emerge. And the numbers are relentless: "In the period from August 1, 2020 to February 28, 2021, the number of covid-19 infections in the city of Naples was approximately 47.123 cases. After a phase of strong daily growth in cases until the beginning of November 2020, with over a thousand cases reported in one day (November 6), a decrease in incidence followed, which ended towards the end of December.
In the first part of January 2021, a period of substantial stability of the contagion was observed, followed by a current phase of increase in the contagion. In particular, in the last week of February, 1.894 cases were reported with an increase of 49% compared to the previous week in which the reported cases were 1.275. The weekly incidence per 100.000 inhabitants is now equal to 197 cases. In the comparison between the incidence (cases per 100.000 inhabitants) between the City of Naples and Campania, a higher incidence of Covid-19 in the City of Naples is highlighted, especially in the first part of the second wave, while in the last period it is the Campania Region that presents higher incidence values”.

As regards the age group, however, it is highlighted that the increase in incidence in the last week of the second month of the year is evident in all age groups with high values in the 14-75 age group. "In particular, the 19-30 age group returns to having high incidence values, which was decisive during the initial phase of the second wave for the increase in contagion".
