The mayor of Villa Di Briano, a municipality in the Caserta area, Luigi Della Corte, has tested positive for coronavirus.
The swab result set the tracing machine in motion, which led to an initial round of screening at the city hall among employees and administrators, all of which have so far tested negative.

"My dear fellow citizens, I must unfortunately inform you that I have just received confirmation that I am currently positive for Covid-19. I want to reassure the citizens, as already on Sunday evening, in the presence of the first feverish symptoms, I immediately went into self-isolation. Although I had tested negative on a first swab, I preferred to continue the isolation until the second molecular swab was confirmed, of which I received the result a few minutes ago.
I only had feverish symptoms in the first few days but fortunately nothing to worry about. Now I'm fine. Unfortunately, my institutional role involves daily and continuous contact with many people and the risk for a mayor is undoubtedly high, despite all the precautions taken. For this reason, I renew the invitation to citizens to respect all the rules, not to take the situation lightly, as the virus is among us and could infect you in the most unexpected way. Today a girl of only 34 years old died in Villa Literno from Covid. We stand with her family. This makes us understand that by now the virus, mutating, is becoming more dangerous. Be careful! Follow the instructions!
This morning at the town hall all the employees took a swab test, all with negative results. I will keep you updated on the progress”.
