“In Campania we will do everything to reopen schools as soon as possible and therefore we will vaccinate not only school staff but also students”.

The president of the said it Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca during his usual Friday Facebook live. And then he added: "We must complete the vaccination of a portion of the over 80s who will have to be vaccinated at home and then the fragile patients with the help of general practitioners. I understand the concerns of parents but the world of school is a priority for us.

We have verified the possibility of vaccinating children over 16, this would have allowed schools to open. But only the Pfizer vaccine is good, the doses are limited and are needed for fragile patients and healthcare workers. And this is why when a vaccine suitable for children is available, Campania will give priority to the entire school world, including students”.

“We must be careful, today the contagion transmission index exceeds 1,65. Large number of symptomatic patients, every day we are holding up in intensive care with 160 in intensive care and we are holding up with hospitalizations in medical areas. Unlike other regions we are not closing other departments. in intensive care we are at 27% if we reach 35% we must close other departments. Many of the decisions we make are in line with the logic of avoiding clogging up hospitals and not being able to treat citizens. We are the region most at risk, having the highest population density in Europe”, therefore “the ease of transmission of the contagion, especially of the latest variants, is great. We cannot joke or underestimate. What we have to decide, must be decided, because the first value is life to be defended”. Looking at the situation of health facilities, he points out that “there is still a high number of symptomatic patients”, so much so that at these rates of contagion “50 more beds are needed every day”.

 'HOSPITALS HOLD UP'

Specifically, De Luca explains that the occupancy of intensive care is "at 27%, with a critical threshold of 30%, while in hospitalizations Campania is at 37%, with a critical threshold of 40-45%. If we go beyond that, it will become inevitable to close other departments".

“It was a mistake not to have organized the production of vaccines in Italy. And then organizing a vaccination center was too complicated while elsewhere they even gave vaccines in parking lots. When you are at war you have to hurry. In Campania, 140 thousand people have already been vaccinated with the Astrazeneca vaccine that resumes this afternoon.
