Tomorrow the documentary film on the Julian-Dalmatian exodus and the Corsa del Ricordo will be previewed
[Press release]
Due to the pandemic, the Corsa del Ricordo 2021 was held in virtual mode. In the end, even if in a different way than usual, the event achieved its goal by registering the participation of athletes from all over Italy and abroad who wanted to honor in a sporting way the noble goals that the event sets itself.
The organizers wanted, on this special occasion, to create a documentary film (which will be released, in preview by the Adnkronos agency, on Friday, March 19. Visible on the homepage from 10:30) in which the sad events of the foibe and the tragedy of the Julian-Dalmatian exodus are told, as well as the sporting history of the Corsa del Ricordo. The documentary film, produced by ASI (Associazioni Sportive e Sociali Italiane, the sports promotion body that organizes the event), with the contribution of the Lazio Region and the support of the Associazione Nazionale Venezia Giulia e Dalmazia, was made on a story by Fabio Argentini and Michelangelo Gratton who also directed the film.
The story is celebrated through the testimony of two exiles. A ninety-year-old – Giovanna Martinuzzi – who, in the Roman neighborhood Giuliano-Dalmata, was the teacher of all the children for many years. Her story is lucid, her memories of a beloved land, of the exodus and of the dramatic moments experienced are vivid. Together with her, also Abdon Pamich, unforgettable champion of Race Walking, Olympic Gold in Tokyo but, above all, on the highest podium at the European Championships in Belgrade, in the presence of Tito, many years after fleeing from Fiume. His intense story moves and takes you back in time.
The documentary film, a successful mix of images from the past and today, between history, current events and sports, is enriched by the message that Egea Haffner, known to all as the little girl with the umbrella and the suitcase in her hand with the writing “Esule Giuliana”, wanted to give to this event, years ago.

“Also thanks to sport we can remember…”, says Nino Benvenuti who closes the film with a phrase taken from one of his speeches before a race. Inside the film, many testimonies from the organizers of the competition and the exile associations. The choice by director Michelangelo Gratton to also use black and white images is linked to the attempt to give greater intimacy and, at the same time, drama to the faces and the story of the protagonists.

A championship lived with bated breath, decided only in the last ninety minutes, like a car race resolved at a photo finish. It is from this image that “The Great Race – Photo Finish Scudetto”, the official documentary film of the Lega Serie A dedicated to the 2024/25 season, one of the most spectacular and hard-fought in recent years, won by Antonio Conte's Napoli.
An original production by the League itself, entirely made at the IBC in Lissone, which is now available for free on YouTube and soon also on DAZN, as well as for international distribution. The documentary tells the incredible Scudetto race with an innovative and engaging language, using the metaphor of a kart race to express tension, speed and unexpected events. Every point becomes an overtaking, every mistake a missed opportunity, every curve a turning point that can change everything.
