Fuel theft from a bus and an employee who was “time clock cheater” is the picture that emerged from the Police investigations started following a complaint from Eav
EAV, the transport holding company of the Campania Region, had filed a complaint after the report of petrol thefts in the Agnano tyre depot in June 2020.
The results of the investigations were announced by the president of Eav Umberto De Gregorio, who spoke of a "disturbing picture", recalling that "the approximately 3 thousand employees of Eav and the workers of the related industries are for the most part serious and decent people. Unfortunately - he added - some black sheep remain, despite the moment of serious economic and social crisis that should lead to the awareness that those who have a secure job must hold on to it".
The investigations revealed that "an employee of the external company that takes care of the maintenance of our buses, systematically filled up his private car or the car of the same company, illegally taking fuel from the buses parked for maintenance inside the workshop. In the context of the investigations - continues De Gregorio - an illicit conduct also emerged by one of our employees, who every morning had his time clock stamped by an employee of the external cleaning company, thus fraudulently certifying his presence at the workplace".
De Gregorio says that the measures taken against the three people involved are house arrest for the employee of the external company who stole fuel and the obligation to sign in at the police station for the Eav employee and for the employee of the cleaning company. “The success of the operation, followed with professionalism and confidentiality, was made possible thanks to the great teamwork of the Eav employees who worked alongside the police, to whom we extend our thanks, sparing no effort and providing every useful support. We are always here to give our best to the workers. But if the disturbing picture highlighted were to be confirmed, we will be rigorous to the end, as we have done on other occasions. We have hired 450 young people in recent months and many are waiting. Work is a precious asset, for many a dream. The dignity of Eav workers must be protected. For those who do not deserve it, the dignity of work, no mercy”, concludes De Gregorio.
