Naples. Trial for the entrepreneur Alfredo Romeo in the investigation of the Naples prosecutor's office for the management of public supplies.
Romeo, already involved in the Consip investigation, sent to trial by the GUP of Naples for the Neapolitan strand, is accused of having been the "promoter and organizer" of a system aimed at controlling supplies and the management of real estate assets of public administrations.
Sent to trial for the crimes contested, including association, false credit, fraud in public supplies, acquitted instead for corruption and acquitted for two tax crimes. The entrepreneur defended by the lawyers Carotenuto, Sorge and Vignola, was acquitted with the architect Ivan Russo of Romeo Gestioni from the only crime of corruption contested. Also sent to trial for the former parliamentarian Italo Bocchino, the former governor Stefano Caldoro and the current director general of the ASL Na1 Centro Ciro Verdoliva.
During the preliminary investigations, the prosecutors had charged Alfredo Romeo and former AN member of parliament Italo Bocchino with criminal association aimed at committing crimes against the public administration, and with disturbed freedom of auctions in relation to the assignment and awarding of contracts for cleaning services for public buildings and structures, and other services connected with the "global service" formula, and the management of real estate assets of public administrations. Bocchino was charged with the role of 'organizer with the task of planning and managing the activity'; during the investigations, the role of the former member of parliament was mitigated. In fact, the GUP sent him to trial for the crime of influence peddling, the same crime charged to Stefano Caldoro and Romeo himself.
Acquitted from the charges of corruption and disclosure of official secrets are the three state police officers Aniello Ippolito, Francesco D'Ambrosio and Elio Di Maro, defended by the lawyer Sergio Pisani. On trial instead are two financiers. The charge of criminal association, among others, is contested, also to Ivan Russo, a historical collaborator of Romeo. The crime of corruption is contested to a first-level manager of the Ministry of Justice, Emanuele Caldarera, at the time of the facts with the role of General Director for the management and maintenance of the offices and buildings of the judicial complex of Naples. Acquittal, instead, for the official of the Municipality of Naples, Ciro Salzano, who was judged with the abbreviated procedure.
Also sent for trial is Ciro Verdoliva, current general director of the ASL Napoli 1 Centro and, at the time of the facts under investigation, director of the Finance Office of the Cardarelli Hospital in Naples. Verdoliva's indictment concerns fraud in public supplies, disclosure of official secrets, aiding and abetting, material falsity, and inducing someone to give or promise something useful. Among the episodes he is accused of, some maintenance work in his home carried out by two employees of the owner of a company that was subcontracting work to the Cardarelli hospital.
“In acknowledging the GUP's decision to send my client Ciro Verdoliva, the current general director of ASL Napoli 1 Centro, to trial for some of the crimes he was charged with, while not sharing, as his trusted lawyer, the decision, I reiterate my and Verdoliva's total trust in the judges”. This was stated by the lawyer Giuseppe Fusco, legal representative of the director of ASL Napoli 1 Centro Ciro Verdoliva, sent to trial today by the GUP of Naples. “The preliminary hearing – adds the lawyer – represents a phase in which the defendants’ responsibilities for the crimes contested are not ascertained, being intended only to verify the existence of the prerequisites for the subsequent trial phase, whose judges will have the task and function of establishing, on the basis of the evidence that will be collected, the validity of the charges and, consequently, decide whether to condemn or acquit Verdoliva, who, moreover, is attributed alleged crimes for conduct dating back in time and completely unrelated to his current functions as General Director of ASL Napoli 1 Centro”. “My and my client’s belief remains firm that the trial will demonstrate the non-existence of the charges”, concludes lawyer Giuseppe Fusco.
