The agents of the Railway Police Department for Campania, following targeted checks in ferrous material depots aimed at curbing the phenomenon of thefts of cables Copper in the railway sector, they proceeded to check two depots in the industrial area of Frattaminore and to report the relevant owners.

In particular, a 40-year-old man, owner of a company without any environmental authorization, stored ferrous and non-ferrous waste inside the premises of his company, including copper stolen from Rete Ferroviaria Italiana.

Inside the premises, 185 kg of shaped copper cables for exclusive use by RFI, 85 kg of copper cables for use by Telecom, 77 kg of copper cables, other ferrous materials and equipment for processing and crushing cables were found. Among the equipment, a so-called “mill” was also found, a machine for the use of which specific authorisations are required and with which copper cables can be stripped.

The granulated copper is then transformed into raw material, thus increasing its value and making its origin no longer recognizable.

In an adjacent warehouse, a large quantity of ferrous waste was found, collected again without the required authorizations, including about 100 kg of copper, the origin of which the owner was unable to justify. At the end of the activities, all materials, machinery and premises were subjected to preventive seizure and the two were reported for recycling, receiving stolen goods and illegal management of ferrous waste.

Furthermore, still within the scope of the checks at scrapyards, in the industrial area of ​​Casandrino, the police, while carrying out a check at a depot, found 1720 kg of exhausted batteries.

The owner was reported for illegal management of hazardous special waste, as he did not have an authorization to store such batteries.
