Portesta day in Naples. Strictly distanced, circus performers and amusement park operators, wedding sector operators, No Dad, students and Cobas took to the streets

“After a year of closures,” says an operator, “we are facing more months without work. Just think that we have had starvation compensation, a thousand euros, two thousand euros per VAT number” and they ask for “guidelines to be able to reopen.” “Rekindle the happiness of the amusement parks,” reads some signs. The protest seems cheerful and colorful and under the windows of the Prefecture, circus jugglers gather, girls in wedding dresses who get their makeup done in public, behind a large cardboard wedding cake, photographers of the “events” with multicolored jackets.

Wedding sector protest

Couples in the square in formal wear for this day of protest in Naples. In piazza del Plebiscito, in addition to the complaints of entertainment, circus and amusement park operators, in the center of the square, near the entrance to the Government Palace, newlywed couples dressed in formal wear, photographers and the Ville per eventi committee. Among them are couples who really should get married, but don't know when yet: "We'll get married when someone gives us the green light". Next to them is an operator in the sector, Mario Conte, who adds: "We are showing all our anger. Our families are at home without money. Young people must get married, love is a wonderful thing. We want to live - he adds - we are artists". Another operator in the wedding sector insists: "We entrust ourselves to the hands of God and the Draghi government. You can't kill this business". The Ville per eventi committee then speaks, present with its own banner in the square: "We were the first to close and perhaps we will be the last to reopen. We have enormous costs for rent, maintenance, which have now become unsustainable. We have presented – the committee points out – memoranda of understanding to the government, to reopen safely, but we have never received any answers”.

No dad, students and Cobas

The no dad are also protesting, along with students, teachers, movements, social centers and Cobas in Piazza Dante in Naples, to ask for "the reopening of schools in continuity and safety, immediately implementing all the necessary measures to guarantee the right to health and education". The protest is part of the day of strike for the school promoted by 'Priority to school, Cobas and Cnps' and which has seen mobilizations in over 65 cities. In Naples there was the convergence of the Rete scuola saperi e cura, the Osservatorio popolare studenti, Teachers for future Campania and Fridays for future Naples plus many grassroots organizations.

The requests

In addition to the immediate reopening of schools, that "the resources of the Recovery Fund are tied to relaunching public schools, and in particular that these resources are not used to further promote distance learning". Among the battles is also that "for the stabilization of precarious workers, teachers and ATA staff, for regular competitions and a strong increase in staff as a necessary condition for continuity of teaching in person and safety". The joint appeal also calls for "a massive increase in public transport".

Against the closure of parks

The No Dad parents of Naples will take to the streets and cross the city by bike, thus implementing "a practice of civil disobedience and reappropriation of life". The appointment is for tomorrow, March 27, in Piazza del Gesù from where they will cross part of the city by bike to arrive in Piazza Garibaldi where a demonstration will take place to ask for the reopening of schools and open spaces. The No Dad denounce that in Campania "after a year of senseless school closures, parks, squares, and the seafront are also being closed. We are not having it and we are asking not only for the reopening of schools but also of open spaces, efficiency of public transport, public and territorial health as well as the reopening of museums and theaters".
