Mafia, Day of Memory and Commitment: from Scampia to Lamezia Terme the Ip Ip Urrà project in support of the Progetto Sud Community after the intimidations suffered

March 21st not only marks the beginning of spring, but it is also the day of remembrance: that of the innocent victims of the mafia. On this Day, the Ip Ip – Infanzia Prima project, selected by Con i Bambini (Fund against educational poverty), wants to keep up the commitment that partner organizations carry out in the territory. Women, young people, mothers, brothers and sisters, sometimes children who have fallen from the south to the north of the country under the blows of a war between gangs and clans in the name of illicit trafficking and control of the territory.
“In Lamezia Terme, the Comunità Progetto Sud, a valuable partner of the Ip Ip Urrà project, has been subjected to intimidation for weeks, actions against the operators of the confiscated property managed by the organization – says Barbara Pierro, of the Chi rom e…chi no association, project manager – All our solidarity goes to them as a project and community network that moves around the initiative, so that no one feels excluded in the battle that we all have to carry out every day against the barbarity, intimidation and climate of fear that criminal systems try to insinuate into our streets, into our actions”.
“Spring and life begin on March 21st, so we must remember the lives cut short by the mafias – explains Don Giacomo Panizza of South Project – The mafiosi have it in for someone who carries forward the values of dignity, freedom and democracy. Memory also serves this purpose, to carry forward the memory for the society that remains. Memory is telling all of us that we need to understand what History is: episodes glued together by those who write them, the winners, or by those who want to erase what is happening. Lives must not be cut short by bullies who want to erase people in the name of power”.
The project
Ip Ip Urrà is a project that sees the initiatives of the following organizations promoted in its community network: the Chi rom e…chi no association (leader), the Il Cantiere social cooperative (Albino, Val Seriana), the L'Abbaino cooperative, the Consorzio Mestieri Toscana (Florence), the Mignanego Social Cooperative (Genoa), the Comunità Progetto Sud Association (Lamezia Terme), the Fermenti lattici Association (Lecce), the EcoS-Med social cooperative (Messina), the Libera Compagnia di Arti & Mestieri Sociali (Pioltello), the 21 luglio association (Rome), the Educazione Progetto social cooperative (Turin), the Zancan Foundation, the Federico II University of Naples – Centro Sinapsi and many partner organizations, schools and institutions scattered throughout the country.
