“La camera di Viola” is the new song by Granato: a reflection on consumerism and commodification

“Viola’s Room tells a story, a brief parenthesis in the life of an adolescent who finds herself having to question herself, including her own body, to try to affirm her own existence, her own personality, her own individuality. It is the allegory of an existential state that, in our mass and consumerist society, excludes no one. Everything is reified, commodified and sold; nothing seems to truly belong to us, not even our body: selling seems to be the only assumption that makes us living men. “Viola’s Room” is, in short, a reflection on alienation.”

Echoes of the 80s new wave, poised between electronic and dark; pop intuitions of dance: between Bluvertigo's "Zero" and the songwriting of Baustelle, between Battiato's "La voce del padrone" and the Mediterranean kraut of Matia Bazar's "Fango", "La camera di viola" is a song as introspective and dark as it is engaging and energetic, with a rarefied verse that paves the way for a chorus that gets into your head from the first listen and does not allow anyone who listens to it not to sing it over and over again.

It is with this song that, after the release of the singles “Europe” and “Ultra” and four years after the publication of their debut album, “Corrente”, Granato, a duo composed of Francesco Bianco (vocals, guitar, synth and electronics) and Alessandro Cicala (guitar), return to the scene.

“On a musical level, 'La camera di Viola' was born from an idea of Alessandro: a series of notes repeated in cycle and a harmonic progression to support them, elements still very evident in the final draft of the piece. The result is a sensual and engaging music, at times dry and delicate, at times richer and more expressive”.

The song is an allegory of the consumerist society in which we are, willingly or unwillingly, immersed; a society that aims at profit and commodification, and makes us alienated:

“Viola’s Room tells a story, a brief parenthesis in the life of an adolescent who finds herself having to question herself, including her own body, to try to affirm her own existence, her own personality, her own individuality. It is the allegory of an existential state that, in our mass and consumerist society, excludes no one. Everything is reified, commodified and sold; nothing seems to truly belong to us, not even our body: selling seems to be the only assumption that makes us living men. “Viola’s Room” is, in short, a reflection on alienation”.

Recorded in the band's personal studios, together with the former member, drummer and sound engineer, Dario Giuffrida (who also took care of mixing and mastering the song), 'La camera di Viola' marks the beginning of Granato's collaboration with Aventino Music:

“This is our first work published with Aventino Music. Through Dario we made Claudio Scozzafava, chief of Aventino, listen to our songs, and he liked them a lot; therefore, he decided to support us for the next publications. We hope it will be a long collaboration because we feel appreciated and pampered”.

'La camera di Viola' anticipates the release of the new album by Garnet, 'Songs for Young Adults':

“La camera di Viola anticipates the release of the album “Canzoni per giovani adulti”. The album will consist of eight tracks, each with its own strong personality. But first, there will certainly be room for some other singles. Get ready!”.
