Environmental pollution: buffalo farm seized in Caserta

The Carabinieri of the Forestry Station of Castel Volturno (Caserta) carried out an inspection at a buffalo farm in via Potenza.

Inside the farm, the presence of an illegal drain was discovered with a PVC pipe buried beneath the flooring, through which the waste water from the paddocks flowed into a perimeter canal.

Furthermore, there were zootechnical effluents mixed with straw improperly stored on the bare ground of the right bank of the main hanging canal, a tributary of the Regi Lagni, and an underground reinforced concrete tank filled with non-shovelable effluents and piles of shovelable effluents mixed with straw, for which the owner did not produce any documentation certifying periodic emptying-disposal. The company was not found to be in possession of any mandatory documentation.

I Forestry Carabinieri they seized the entire company complex, appointing the owner as judicial custodian with the right to use it to manage the animals.

The owner of the farm was reported at liberty for the crimes of environmental pollution, illegal management of special waste consisting of livestock effluents and agronomic use of livestock effluents outside of the cases provided for by current legislation.

During the inspection, other abandoned non-hazardous special waste was also found, including plastic containers, scrap iron, used tires, gas cylinders and bulky waste. In this regard, the company was found not to have a convention contract with a specialized company, nor a waste loading and unloading register, nor waste identification forms. This violation earned the company a fine of 2 thousand euros.
