The family of Mariano Saggese, the 22-year-old hit on the Arzano overpass, asks for light to be shed on his death: "The investigations so far have been superficial. We ask for justice." Borrelli and Simioli: "This story must not be forgotten."
It was the night between July 23 and 24, 2020 when Mariano Saggese, 22, returning home to Melito on a scooter, was hit by unknown people and left to die on the asphalt of the overpass of the Arzano roundabout.
Even though we have arrived in March 2021, the death of the young 22-year-old, father of two children, is still shrouded in mystery, there have been no developments in his case despite the many appeals from his family, who thus turned to the Regional Councilor of Europa Verde Francesco Emilio Borrelli to ask for light to be shed on the matter. Enza, Mariano's cousin, intervened live by telephone on La Radiazza: "In our opinion, the investigations were not conducted adequately, the area was not even placed under seizure. Three days after the accident, we found a set of Mariano's keys.
After so many months, the dynamics of my cousin's death are still unclear. We know that there is a video showing a car hitting Mariano's scooter, but the license plate is not legible. We ask that the investigations be deepened and justice be done. My cousin leaves behind a partner and two children, one of whom was born shortly after his death".
“We appeal to the judiciary and the police: make the maximum effort to clarify this matter, the family of Mariano, a young man who lost his life, who was not even able to witness the birth of his second daughter, deserves to know the truth.
The stories of people like Mariano, who was just a “simple” butcher, are being forgotten. We will not allow this,” said Borrelli and radio host Gianni Simioli.
