Antonio Volpe, the elderly man killed in the evening in via Leopardi in Fuorigrotta, had his fate sealed.

He had already seen death up close in 2005 when he was seriously injured in an ambush. Volpe was a well-known figure to law enforcement, but more importantly, he was the brother-in-law of Antonio Bianco, the former right-hand man of the Baratto brothers, head of the Camorra group that controlled illicit trafficking in the Fuorigrotta neighborhood, from loan sharking to extortion and drug dealing.

THE 2005 AMBUSH IN WHICH HE WAS WOUNDED IN THE FACE

It was September 2005, XNUMX when Volpe, in the midst of the war between the Bianco-Baratto and the Iadonisi group, accompanied the criminal Salvatore Staiano to Quarto. He had intervened to reconcile Giuseppe Iadonisi, head of one of the two factions and later murdered, with his nephew Cosmo Iadonisi, who instead sided with Antonio Bianco's group. However, a trap was set for him: he gave him an appointment in Quarto with the pretext of selling him a kilo of drugs at a very convenient price. While the deal was being discussed, Staiano was shot at point-blank range from the car in which he was traveling with Volpe, who was seriously injured in the face.

THE CLASH BETWEEN THE WHITE-BARATTO AND THE IADONISI

Staiano had gone to the appointment despite his family members having begged him not to, as they suspected a scam. His sister told investigators: "This appointment had been a topic of discussion in our family for a few days, in fact our efforts to dissuade him from showing up were in vain, as the way in which they had proposed the deal to him suggested a possible trap. In fact, he claimed to want to buy some drugs at 25.000 euros per kilo. This price seemed too low to be considered plausible."

To put an end to the clashes, the group led by Antonio Bianco proposed a division of the areas of competence: it would control drug dealing, leaving the extortion sector to its rivals.

 THE NEW FIBRILLATIONS IN FUORIGROTTA

The current fibrillations in the neighborhood of Fuorigrotta are linked to the split in the micro-clans whose source of income is mainly the management of illegal parking attendants in the stadium area, which has not hosted sports competitions for a year, taking away an important source of income from these groups, which have also seen their earnings from clandestine betting and extortion increasingly reduced.
