The association “Go – Giovani Ortesi” commemorates with a video-story the story of Andrea Mormile, victim of the Camorra
For the Day of Remembrance and Commitment in memory of the victims of the mafia, the young people of the association “Go! – Giovani Ortesi” of Orta di Atella, in the province of Caserta, told the story of Andrea with a video story Mormile, marshal murdered in a Camorra ambush. Paride Mormile, son of Andrea, also a policeman, took part in the initiative and told his father's story in front of the cameras.
There are many stories of those who sacrificed their lives to eradicate the Camorra at the cost of their own lives: that of Andrea Mormile is one of these. It was September 3, 1982 when Marshal Mormile was in front of a bar in Frattaminore, in the province of Naples. The perpetrators of the ambush suddenly arrived in front of the place on board a stolen car. One of the killers got out of the car and opened fire on those present, wounding the marshal. The final blow was later delivered by a second accomplice. In the past, with his arrests, Mormile had already hindered the business of the Puca clan of Sant'Antimo, whose regent was Giuseppe Puca, known as 'O Giappone, affiliated with the New Organized Camorra led by the boss Raffaele Cutolo. For his colleagues at the Naples Police Headquarters, Mormile was one of the most capable officers in the department and was a highly respected and esteemed person for his great sense of state. Throughout his career he has always represented an important bulwark of legality in the territory as well as a thorn in the side of the Camorra.
Great enthusiasm for the success of the initiative was expressed by the president of the association Giovanni Sorvillo: “We are really happy. There was immediate availability from the people involved in the realization of the project. Our aim is to bring to light the story of Andrea Mormile, our fellow citizen who almost forty years ago gave his life for the ideals of justice and legality. We young people will never forget his sacrifice”. Also satisfied is the videomaker Massimo Russo whose support was fundamental for the realization of the video-story: “When the guys from the association invited me to take part in this initiative I didn't think twice. Filming Paride Mormile while he was telling the heroic deeds of his father moved me deeply. Andrea Mormile was and will always be an example to follow in the fight against the Camorra”.
