The multiple murderer from Massafra, in the Taranto area, was found dead this morning by suicide. Antonio Granata, a 61-year-old pruner who killed his wife Carolina Bruno, 65, and his mother-in-law Lorenza Addolorata Carano, 92, at home, hanged himself.
The man killed himself in Palagiano, not far from Massafra. Late yesterday afternoon Granata had killed his wife and mother-in-law by stabbing them in the throat with a knife and, presumably, also a work tool, such as scissors or shears, and wounding them to the head.
After raising the alarm with the Carabinieri, revealing that he had committed a double crime, Granata announced that he was going to run away to kill himself. The man drove away in his car, a Seat Ibiza: he turned off his phone and disappeared.
The discovery of the body
His body was found in Palagiano this morning after 8. Already after the double homicide, a large search by the Carabinieri had started that involved the entire area of Massafra and its surroundings, a territory characterized by ravines and cliffs. Granata - according to what has been learned - had committed self-harm gestures already when leaving his home: acquaintances and neighbors tried in vain to stop him.
