Treatment of cancer patients at Caserta hospital suspended due to doctors' absence due to Covid.
The Management of the Sant'Anna and San Sebastiano Hospital of Caserta communicated this in a press release: "The unexpected absence, due to illness, of several professionals also dedicated to intensive COVID care, has led, temporarily, to the adoption of further measures linked to the suspension of some elective activities of assistance to cancer patients and urgent and non-deferrable cases".

The Management ofSant'Anna Hospital Trust and San Sebastiano di Caserta intends to clarify that what was reported in the afternoon of March 29, 2021, by some online press organs regarding the alleged closure of nr. 5 of the nr. 6 Operating Rooms does not correspond to the truth, as equally misleading can be considered the headlines of some newspapers this morning.
For the sake of accuracy, the intensification of pandemic cases last week required an increase in the number of high-intensity care beds dedicated to COVID patients, imposing some measures related to the reorganization of the healthcare offer, such as the unification of the two NON-COVID Intensive Care Units.
The unexpected absence, due to illness, of several professionals also dedicated to COVID intensive care, has led, temporarily, to the adoption of further measures related to the suspension of some elective activities, without prejudice to any type of assistance to cancer patients and urgent and non-deferrable cases, as well as the interruption, again temporarily, of nr. 1 (in the hours 08:00-14:00) of the nr. 3 elective Operating Room sessions. This last measure was also made to coincide with the start of work, to be carried out in the vicinity of the Operating Rooms, for the activation of nr. 8 post-operative Intensive Care places, through the use of funds from Legislative Decree 34/2020.
The easing of pandemic pressure and the return of all professionals will lead to the immediate reinstatement of temporarily suspended elective activities.
For completeness, with the arrival of the vaccines expected for today, starting tomorrow this Company will provide them to the fragile patients already being treated at this facility".
