Doctors: No to mandatory use of specialists for Covid vaccinations
LIn Campania, like other regions in Italy, it has interpreted the use of specialists in the vaccination campaign as mandatory for young colleagues, and despite the contrary position of the Federico II School of Medicine, which has underlined its voluntary nature, the Region is going ahead and pushing for mandatory prescriptions for all doctors in training starting from the first years.
The ETICA list, a candidate for the next elections of the Order of Physicians of Naples and also composed of the president and a good part of the outgoing Council, to which were added the representatives of SIGM and the confederates with the CISL, is against a mandatory employment of specialists in exchange for CFU (university credits). "Even a month of vaccinations - says the president in office Silvestro Scotti - is equivalent to a month taken away from the specialist training of young colleagues, and therefore lost; even the FNOMCEO in recent months had spoken out against the obligation and in defense of training".
"A less trained specialist doctor today will be a less prepared specialist to respond to the health needs of the population tomorrow - underlines Agostino Buonauro, youth observatory OMCeO Naples and representative on the list for SIGM -. Therefore, his use in the vaccination campaign, in substitution of the specialist training path, is a serious damage to the future of Healthcare. Now we reason without prospects for the future. The hope is that the two ministries involved (that of Health and that of the University) clarify the incorrect interpretation of some Regions, such as Campania, and protect the work and training of colleagues".
