The M5S regional councilor: “Mea culpa in the answer to my question. And now those poisons will return to Campania”
"We were right to suspect that behind the trafficking of non-recyclable waste in Tunisia, at the origin of an investigation that led to the arrest of the local environment minister in recent months, there were clear negligences by the Campania Region. 282 containers of bales of Italian waste shipped to Sousse cannot fail to be subject to checks by the regional authorities, in light of European regulations that require member states to check every load of waste to be shipped, sanctioning any violations. From the regional council's response to my question, there is a clear admission of guilt.
First of all because it is admitted, once and for all, that there is no system or apparatus for controlling plants of this kind or the actual quantity sent outside the region, to the point that the regional offices themselves specify, literally, that "only seventy movements were completed" out of the almost three hundred carried out. As for the actual nature of the waste shipped, mostly hospital waste, responsibility is placed on the Province and the customs authority, omitting that Arpac, the main regional company in terms of environmental controls, should be involved in this type of analysis". This is denounced by the regional councilor of the 5 Star Movement Maria Muscarà.
“The total absence of a control apparatus – adds Muscarà – is highlighted by the Region's decision to currently block any trip of hazardous waste across the border. Without forgetting the insult, that is, that the waste that ends up in Tunisia will have to be repatriated and there is still no planning regarding specific disposal methods. New bales of special and hazardous waste in a region already saturated with bales and poisons”.
