“The disappearance of the candelabra in the Palatine Chapel of the Royal Palace in Naples leaves me very surprised and worried.
A regrettable situation that undermines the safety of the entire artistic heritage. It is incredible to think that, if we had not reported the matter, no one would have noticed or made it known. How is this possible? And it is absurd that I was the one who raised the matter, by chance, after a report. I appeal to Minister Franceschini”.
Francesco Emilio Borrelli, regional councilor of Europa Verde yesterday, with a communication to the management of the Royal Palace, had asked for news on the affair that is being covered today by the press. According to some hypotheses, Borrelli emphasizes, the 'disappeared' candelabras could be more than one. Borrelli adds: "I ask myself: how can you not know what happened to a candelabra, there is no inventory?
WAS IT STOLEN OR MOVED? WHAT ABOUT THE CAMERAS?
Are there no internal controls and cameras? Has it been stolen or moved? At this point we are very concerned about the inestimable artistic heritage of Palazzo Reale. The fate reserved for the candelabra could also concern other objects. For this reason we have sent an urgent SOS to the Minister for Cultural Heritage and Activities so that he intervenes for the defense and protection of those assets. We ask for greater attention, hoping that the case of the candelabra was a sporadic episode". "As if that were not enough, outside Pazzo Reale, the sculpture made by Jago, "Look down", is used as a foot cleaner by those who step on dog waste, or to attach love locks by kids. Protecting cultural heritage - Borrelli concludes - must be a daily priority".
