No Dad in the square in Naples with fire eaters and candles
The performances of a fire-eater and a large banner that says 'A year without school': these are the symbols of the protest of the No Dad families of Naples who took to the streets today, almost a year after the lockdown and the first school closures.
“We too should have a flamethrower,” said Flavia Brescia, mother and educator, taking up the flamethrower slogan used by the President of the Region, Vincenzo De Luca, during the lockdown to 'convince' citizens to respect the rules. And some chants were sung against De Luca today in Via Toledo, including 'De Luca buffoon'. The governor has been targeted by the No Dad movement for months because of his ordinances with which schools in Campania were repeatedly closed "in contrast" with the national rules indicated in the successive dpcm.

“We want the constitutional right to education to be guaranteed for our children,” Flavia continued, “which is given by in-person school. In these few days of opening, just 30 consecutive, the school has proven to be safe because safety protocols are followed and implemented in the classroom.” From September to today, a sign underlines, schools in Naples have been closed for 139 days. Schools that, although Campania is now in the orange zone, are already closed by virtue of an ordinance of the Region and will continue to remain closed given the transition from Monday to the red zone.
'We ask for kindergarten...and also elementary, middle and high schools' reads another banner fixed to the ground by lit candles to symbolize "the death" of the school. And in recent months, the Coordination of Open Schools Campania has sent several letters first to the former Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte, and a week ago to the new Prime Minister, Mario Draghi, in which the No Dad parents ask the Government "to take over" the management of the school from the Region. And to those who point out the increase in infections, the No Dad respond that "the reports from the Region show the infections by age group: they are not infections in schools because they also include children who tested positive while they were in Dad, a sign that they contracted the virus outside of schools".
