Torre Annunziata Bar Association: 'Let's give the floor back to our members!'

The fibrillations within the Torre Annunziata Bar Association continue.

This morning, in fact, the councilors Antonio Cesarano, Elio D'Aquino (resigning vice president), Germaine Popolo, Maria Florinda Di Leva, Paolo Sicignano, filed a document to be made known to members in which they request the convening of a meeting and the resignation of the entire council in order to give the floor to the entire legal profession following the serious conflicts that have arisen within the order.

In the past months there had been other fibrillations with documents, requests for resignation of the president Luisa Liguoro and appeal to the TAR. But now this new document brings to the attention of the lawyers registered with the Order of Torre Annunziata new reflections of which the management will not be able to ignore.

We report the full text of the document:

“Dear colleagues,
The particular situation of paralysis in which the Council of theOrder of Torre Annunziata, is in fact determining the absence of initiatives aimed at guaranteeing the concrete needs of all the Torre del Greco legal profession.
It is known that the events that have revolved around the De Nicola Foundation, which was effectively eliminated in its members by resolution of 28 July 2020, have caused situations of serious conflict within the Council and its representatives.
The tensions found their epilogue in a request for the resignation of the entire presidency office proposed by 11 councilors, a matter currently pending before the Regional Administrative Court.

'The failure of the political project'

The failure of a political project born around personalities who have influenced the life of the legal order for decades has determined a rift between the supporters of damaging restorations and the protagonists of a possible new course, marked by clarity and transparency, with the consequent worsening of an increasingly suffocating conflict for the entire category.
The legal profession in our area, already shocked by the inconveniences and deaths that the pandemic is causing even among colleagues, is watching all this with weariness and in some ways resignation.
We are convinced that in one of the most delicate moments of our professional history, the governing body of the legal profession cannot avoid, in compliance with minimum transparency criteria, informing the class of what is materially happening.

'CALL AN ASSEMBLY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE'

We therefore ask that once this last emergency phase is over, a meeting of members be urgently called for a broad discussion of what is happening, a meeting to which this board should have the courage to present its resignation.
The time has come for the debate, currently only experienced within the council chambers, to involve all the Torre del Greco lawyers in a common reflection.
We appreciated the courage and spirit of self-denial, in some ways even belated, of those who intended to emancipate themselves from a power structure that blocked the decisions of the council and prevented its autonomous and independent management, but it is evident that at present the situation is sterilized by frustrating idiocies and childish ambitions.
It is also true that a general decay of all levels of representation, increasingly lacking in credibility and authority, is affecting the various sectors of political and administrative life, characterized by a profound destabilization.
But it is also true that a sense of rebellion in the community is giving new impetus to courageous choices based on preparation, experience and ability.

As regards the situation of the legal orders, a recent parliamentary question by our members, Avv. Antonio Pentangelo and Avv. Catello Vitiello, highlighted how our category is currently paralyzed by representative bodies at the National Legal Council that are completely unreliable.
In this perspective, on the basis of the constructive resignation already filed by the vice-president, also signatory of this document, we believe that the dissolution of the council of the order on the initiative of a majority of councilors ready to resign, would be a courageous solution to give voice to the will of the members and to overcome a situation that has become unsustainable.
This is, therefore, the appeal that we address to the other councilors, in the hope that sterile ambitions to fill positions and asphyxiating practices of division do not prevail over a common sense of responsibility".
