“Let's start again”, this will be the simple slogan that will accompany the 33rd edition of the Charlot Prize, which, as usual, will be held in Salerno in July, thanks to the contribution of the Campania Region, the Municipality of Salerno and the Port Authority. There are many events that the patron and artistic director Claudio Tortora is working on, to try to offer the public unique, but above all pleasant evenings, which can make us forget everything we are experiencing for a few hours.
Fresh from the success achieved in the 2020 edition, which saw as great protagonists artists of the caliber of Antonello Venditti, Fiorella Mannoia, Ron, and the Sanremo orchestra conducted by maestro Leonardo De Amicis, for this new edition of the Tortora Award he has already planned interesting novelties.
An evening of honor
Cinema, music and cabaret will not be missing, but the real gem will be an evening dedicated to a great European poet, playwright and theatre director. An evening that will see many forms of entertainment and art meet on stage, with great guests who will have the task of bringing the Nobel Prize-winning author to life, through their interpretations. "It will be a real event - explains Claudio Tortora - an evening of Honor, the one that every year with the Award we dedicate to a character who has left his mark in music, as in theatre, or in poetry".

Obviously this will not be the only major event that the Charlot Award will offer for its 33rd edition… “We will soon start the online selections for emerging cabaret artists, because the young people's competition cannot and must not be missing from the Charlot Award. For this reason, I invite all those who would like to participate in these selections to send us a short video and their CV to the email address clatortora@gmail.com
About twenty videos will be selected from all the videos received. The selected young people will “challenge” each other in an online semifinal that we will hold between the end of May and the beginning of June. From these, the jury will choose the six who will then come to Salerno for the final evening where they will compete to win the Charlot Giovani”.
The curtain of the 33rd edition of the Charlot Award will rise as usual in conjunction with the “Sea Sun, Festa del Mare”. Afterwards, a mini film festival will be held at the Teatro Delle Arti… “in collaboration with the Cineteca di Bologna – continues the artistic director – and this year it will be entirely dedicated to Chaplin”. Then there will be space for children's theatre with the “Charlot Monello” section, for comic theatre and cabaret with shows by great Italian artists and young people who are carving out their space in the cinema and television scene, “we will also have a gem”, adds Tortora – with a show that will feature an artist capable of making everyone dream, of surprising and giving emotions”.
There will also be the delivery of the statuettes dedicated to the great Chaplin for cinema, theater, TV programs, music, fiction, books and advertising. Therefore, an edition not to be missed, an edition that wants to be once again a tribute to the artist whose name it bears: Charlie Chaplin.
