Memorandum of Understanding between the Marine Protected Area and the Campania Extralberghiero Tourism Association: promotion of the territory and ecobrand for eco-sustainable accommodation facilities.

The Punta Campanella Marine Protected Area and non-hotel accommodations are joining forces to promote and protect the environmental heritage of the territory and the sea. The agreement was reached yesterday during a meeting between the President of the Marine Park, Lucio Cacace, and the President of Atex Campania, Sergio Fedele. In the coming weeks, the MPA will sign a protocol with the Association of Non-Hotel Tourism to implement initiatives to inform tourism operators about the Park's activities and to share the natural beauty and marine wonders of the Sorrento Peninsula and the Amalfi Coast with accommodation guests. The primary goal of the initiative will be to raise awareness among operators and tourists about environmental and marine protection through a series of daily actions aimed at reducing the impact on ecosystems, particularly marine ecosystems.
The meeting follows the proposals of the AMP within the General States of Tourism, proposals, including the green certificate, which have attracted the attention of the association of non-hotel facilities of the Sorrento peninsula and Campania.

“Collaboration with those who operate in the territory is very important, starting with the accommodation facilities but not only – underlines the President of the Punta Campanella MPA, Lucio Cacace – The protocol with Atex will allow us to show our natural beauty and our activities to the many tourists who will reach, hopefully as soon as possible, the Sorrento peninsula. And, at the same time, it will allow us to increase environmental awareness among both entrepreneurs in the sector and visitors. The goal is to orient the choices and actions of the accommodation facilities towards sustainable policies and daily actions of respect for the sea and the environment. We would then like, in the long term, to reward these choices with a green certificate, a brand that can be used on the market to attract the many visitors who are attentive to issues such as respect for the environment and sustainability.”

The Marine Park's medium and long-term project is to inform and raise awareness among tourism operators, suggesting practical actions that can reduce the impact on the environment and the sea. Such as, for example, the use of biodegradable detergents, the collection of used oil, water saving, energy efficiency. With the aim of then issuing green certificates that attest to the environmental sustainability of the accommodation facility.

“We are happy to start this relationship with theCampanella Point Amp because we have the opportunity, through the promotion of this extraordinary coast, to set in motion a formidable instrument of attraction and hospitality - observes Sergio Fedele, President of Atex Campania - More and more tourists will be interested in choosing a location not only for the beauty of the landscape, but also for the respect for the sea and the environment. We are convinced that the tourism operators of the Sorrento peninsula must be more committed to the defense, protection and enhancement of their most important heritage, which is the sea".
