He withdrew shopping vouchers with false documents, arrested in Naples after a stakeout by the Municipal Police

Local police officers in Naples have arrested a 48-year-old man on charges of false documents valid for travel abroad, fraud and receiving stolen goods.

the reporting

The department was alerted following a report from the Naples municipal office that deals with providing ticket vouchers for families in need due to Covid. The office had reported that some requests had arrived from people who had produced, at the time of the request, identity documents not registered in the database of the Municipality of Naples. The head of the department arranged for an investigative activity, with personnel in civilian clothes and targeted stakeouts to identify those who would show up to collect the shopping vouchers at the affiliated stores. A supermarket on Via Argine, in particular, reported the accreditation of a person with a suspicious document.

The officers who intervened carried out checks when the suspected man, with the trolley still full, was about to leave. Having ascertained that the identity document, also valid for travel abroad, was false, the prosecutor on duty was notified and ordered a house search of the 48-year-old.

The search resulted in the discovery of another 5 identity cards, all counterfeit, already equipped with photos.

The man was placed under house arrest pending a summary trial.

Gratitude from Councilor Clemente

“I want to express my gratitude to the women and men of the local police, for their promptness and their sense of duty. A masterly intervention, the result of organization and investigative work. I think I can express to all of them the gratitude of all good Neapolitans, of the civilized ones, of those with a heart, of those who filled baskets of solidarity, taking something from themselves to offer it to those who had even less. Thank you!”

"The Municipality of Naples has managed to guarantee more than 12 shopping bonuses to its citizens in the 30.000 months of the pandemic. The emergency is not over, subsidies are a necessity for thousands of families at this time. It is essential to maintain constant checks to ensure that bonuses and resources reach those who truly need them. We cannot tolerate the petty action of those who take advantage of the solidarity and poverty in which thousands of people in our city find themselves", comments Councilor Giovanni Pagano.
