Salerno, vaccines stolen from ASL headquarters but they are anti-flu vaccines

Last night unknown persons broke into the pharmacy ofLocal health authority of Salerno, in via Leucosia.

The thieves stole numerous doses of pediatric and influenza vaccines from a refrigerator. The drugs were valued at approximately €25. Another room, protected by a reinforced door, also contained 70 doses of COVID-19 vaccine, which were not stolen. The Carabinieri recovered the stolen goods on the beach, a few meters away from where they were stolen. The military is investigating to identify the perpetrators and determine their objective.

At the moment it is not possible to establish whether the Covid vaccinations were intentionally omitted or whether the criminals were discouraged by the presence of the armored door. Furthermore, anabolic drugs, often sought by thieves, are also kept inside the structure.

We also need to understand if they were surprised by someone and abandoned the stolen goods preferring to run away. The carabinieri are trying to give a name and a face to the thieves by viewing the images of public and private cameras in the area.

The healthcare of the future depends on technology, but above all on people. This was the message that emerged from the conference "Innovative Activities in Healthcare: Understanding Telemedicine," held in the "Piro" Room of the Salerno Local Health Authority (ASL) headquarters in Nocera Inferiore and promoted by the Campania Regional Council of the Order of Social Workers. The event brought together healthcare and social workers, professionals, and institutional representatives to discuss innovation, equity, and new care models.

Hosting the event was the UOC Governance of Telemedicine and Artificial Intelligence Processes of the Salerno Local Health Authority, led by Antonio Coppola, who in his speech emphasized the social impact of new technologies applied to healthcare. "Telemedicine is not just a technological issue, but a true tool for social justice. It means bringing care where there were previously distances, barriers, and inequalities," Coppola explained, emphasizing that the goal is "to build healthcare that is closer to people, more accessible, and more equitable."

During the conference, several of the innovative projects currently active in the Salerno area were presented, including: Telestroke, awarded by Agenas and Sics, which enables real-time stroke management; remote monitoring of diabetic retinopathy in inland areas of Salerno; and the use of predictive AI for mental health and dementia, in collaboration with Vanvitelli University. The adoption of the GI Genius system in endoscopic procedures for highly accurate early diagnosis. The Senate meeting confirmed the growing role of Artificial Intelligence as a strategic lever for innovation in the national health service, especially in terms of accessibility and equity of care for the most vulnerable populations.
