San Giorgio: digital tools for disadvantaged children to ensure rights and integration. Support for families in difficulty.
The administration, led by the Mayor George Zinno, through the councilor for Social Policies, Giuseppe Giordano, puts projects and available resources into action, making them converge on aid activities for less fortunate citizens. In the presence of the school principal Enzo De Rosa, the head of the Bambù cooperative, Giampaolo Gaudino and the director of Social Policies Michele Ippolito, 6 tablets were delivered to as many families in difficulty, as part of the educational project “Perifelicittà”, aimed at minors belonging to disadvantaged groups.
A project, thanks to which support was given, every year, to 15 children belonging to primary and lower secondary schools, between 5 and 14 years old, with the aim of integrating children belonging to "disadvantaged" families and helping to strengthen the bonds of trust and collaboration between school, families and institutions. The delivery of the tablets is the epilogue of a project that initially provided financial support to disadvantaged families so that children, reported by both schools and social services, had access to extracurricular sports and educational activities; however, given the particular historical moment and the impossibility of carrying out such initiatives due to the pandemic, it was deemed appropriate to use these vouchers for the purchase of tablets. Useful tools to help them carry out teaching activities in Dad as best as possible and allow them to become increasingly familiar with the new digital "needs".
“We have the obligation to ensure everyone has the same rights and to guarantee our children integration and participation – said Mayor Giorgio Zinno. We have always done so, as these principles are among our priorities. In fact, we continue to allocate resources and converge educational and support projects towards those subjects who need greater attention and closeness. Only in this way will we eliminate social distances and create an increasingly just community.”
In addition to these tablets, the administration had already delivered over 300 to the city's comprehensive schools, which were then given on loan to students who needed them.
