The organs of Vincenzo Mirabella, victim of an accident at work, were donated and transplanted.
The 66-year-old man, a construction worker, had fallen from scaffolding set up on a construction site in the municipality of San Valentino Torio. Soccorso had been transported first to the hospital in Sarno and then transferred to Umberto I in Nocera Inferiore. Hospitalized in very serious conditions, he died due to multiple traumas resulting from the fall.
Once death was confirmed according to neurological criteria, as required by current legislation, the family gave consent for organ donation. Last night, the liver, kidneys, and corneas were removed by surgical teams. The operations were successful, giving hope of life to a patient from Naples on the waiting list for a liver transplant; the kidneys were sent to a hospital in Genoa, while the corneas went to the Eye Bank of Naples – Ospedale dei Pellegrini.
A gesture of solidarity, a choice made by VM's family in the midst of their grief: life that returns after death, after loss, in other people
