Caserta train station dangerous, unions send letter to Prefect, Police Chief and Mayor
Lack of safety both at the Caserta railway station and at the adjacent freight yard. For this reason, the provincial secretariats of Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl and Uilt Uil have sent a letter of complaint to the Prefect of Caserta, Dr. Raffaele Ruberto, to the Police Chief of Caserta, Dr. Antonio Borrelli and to the Mayor of Caserta, lawyer Carlo Marino.
The trade unions have collected reports from both Trenitalia DTR Campania's Accompanying Personnel, train cleaning operators and Mercitalia's Shunters.
During the night, numerous indigents lodge on trains parked in the station and in the freight yard depot. The trade unions are calling for the immediate securing of the area in question, with continuous and functional surveillance by security personnel and a video surveillance system to detect any presence of outsiders, considering that the area also contains the building and changing rooms of both Trenitalia and Rete Ferroviaria Italiana staff.
In the past, they had already denounced the dangerous situation of the Caserta railway station, both inside and outside, as well as the area of the railway freight yard, where various indigents and drug addicts often find shelter, with the risk of aggression for the personnel who work there, such as workers of the railway contracts, as well as the operators of Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, Trenitalia and Mercitalia Shunting & Terminal, the latter responsible for moving trains from the depot or warehouse to the station and vice versa.
“A dangerous situation that is unacceptable – we read in the press release – without considering the health and hygiene conditions of the trains, among other things with the ongoing health emergency, for which we ask for immediate intervention by the bodies responsible for Security, in address, so that these workplaces, even sensitive ones, are made absolutely safe, in order to avoid the risk of attacks against railway personnel and train cleaning operators, as well as vandalism of cars parked at night, in this area, used as a parking lot for railway operators”.
