Maccaferri dispute, Bilotti: 'Now the company must explain'
"The matter of the Officine Maccaferri in Bellizzi must be completely clarified. You cannot close a plant in a video conference and send 40 workers bankrupt without first exploring other avenues and trying to find a solution." This is what Anna Bilotti, a member of parliament for the 5 Star Movement, said the day after the decision taken by the leaders of the business group to close the historic Salerno factory.
«The company cannot simply hide behind the economic and epidemiological crisis to liquidate Bellizzi's company overnight, but must explain and argue properly in the appropriate places - adds Bilotti - In this affair there are too many aspects still to be clarified, which I have highlighted on several occasions in recent months and also reported to Parliament with official documents.
It is not clear, for example, how a cutting-edge industry in a sector, that of hydrogeological instability, which is absolutely strategic in our region, in our country and beyond, can be liquidated so easily. And again, it is not clear why, in a months-long concordat phase, the most valuable asset of the Maccaferri group was not the subject of a new industrial plan that took this strategic context into account. And yet the Conte Government, on the hydrogeological instability front, has allocated a river of resources: 11 billion are available».
It is no coincidence that the Salerno M5S MP had requested and obtained the convening of a table at the Ministry of Economic Development, then “frozen” due to the government crisis. «But the matter is certainly not over – explains Bilotti – We are waiting for the delegation of powers to the Mise to schedule the ministerial table as soon as possible, in order to ask the owners all the questions that have remained unanswered. Absolute clarity must be made, first of all on the future of the workers but also on the real reasons for an absolutely reckless closure. The dispute is only just beginning».
