Two police officers were surrounded and attacked in Caserta by a group of people who intervened to defend three boys who had just been arrested because they were found drinking and loitering yesterday after 22 pm, in violation of the curfew.

Three people were arrested. The incident occurred in Piazzetta Cavour, in the Rione Tescione, a working-class neighborhood in Caserta. Additional patrol cars from the Police Headquarters intervened to assist the officers, who had been beaten, spat on, and insulted, and whose belts, uniforms, and gun holsters were damaged. Only with the arrival of reinforcements did the situation return to calm. Ultimately, three people were arrested and taken to prison, at the order of the prosecutor on duty at the Santa Maria Capua Vetere Public Prosecutor's Office, charged with assault, resisting arrest, and assault on a public official, and damage to public property. They are an 18-year-old who became an adult in February, his 57-year-old father with a criminal record, and a 29-year-old.

The two agents of the Flying Squad of the Caserta Police Headquarters, directed by Luigi Ricciardi, stopped three young people between the ages of 18 and 20 near the Rione Tescione; the three were consuming drinks in violation of the curfew. When the officers asked them to show their documents, the young people reacted arrogantly, refusing to show them and immediately calling relatives and acquaintances for help. In a short time, about fifteen people arrived from the surrounding buildings, surrounding the police officers. Some residents, including the father of a boy being checked, attacked the officers, throwing them to the ground, tearing off their uniforms, all while other people incited the attackers, spat at the public officials and insulted them.

One of the two policemen had his belt torn off, and his gun holster broke. In the meantime, another person, who was reported, also stole documents from the officers' car. Shortly after, four patrol cars arrived and managed to restore calm and arrest the most agitated attackers. The prosecutor ordered them to be sent to prison.
