Collaboration between the Regional Park Authority of the Picentini Mountains and the Alpine and Speleological Rescue of Campania
Today is an important day, marked by a significant step forward in emergency communications. The Alpine rescue and Speleological of Campania is now equipped with 3 ICOM satellite radios and 1 THURAYA satellite telephone, thanks to a dedicated project by the Regional Park of Picentini mountains in favor of the CNSAS, with which there is a specific memorandum of understanding.
These radios, in particular, represent a revolutionary tool in the telecommunications system, as they connect directly to the IRIDUM satellite system as if it were a terrestrial radio bridge; but with the added value of acting as a satellite phone with continuous connection. Furthermore, they allow for geolocalisation and display the distance in km from the interlocutor, in addition to a series of other functions.
A technological supply of this kind is the first in Central Southern Italy and even one of the first ever on the national territory. The radios can currently cover the entire regional territory and are useful both for ordinary search and rescue activities within the Park, and for calamities and major emergencies where there could be a more or less temporary crash of the terrestrial systems.
The delivery of the equipment was presided over by the President of the Regional Park of the Picentini Mountains – Arch. Fabio Guerriero, by the Administrative Manager – Arch. Dario Dello Buono and by the Regional President of the Alpine and Speleological Rescue of Campania CNSAS – Mr. Girolamo Galasso.
Statements by President Fabio Guerriero “The great collaboration and support of the Monti Picentini Regional Park with the Alpine and Speleological Rescue of the Campania Region continues, started with the Memorandum of Understanding of March 2019 also with the “Foce Sele – Tanagro” and “Monti Eremita-Marzano” Nature Reserves.
We are aware that due to the historical staff shortages that plague the regional protected areas, we can use technology and innovation to fill some gaps. For the planning and use of the territory, we have modified the search engine of the Territorial Information System, in order to make data consultation easier and faster. We are about to begin a real battle for the control of the territory, against those who abandon waste in the mountains, cause fires and cut down trees illegally, through the supply of remote-controlled photo traps and drones to the forestry police.
We are sure that a summer with an increasing number of hikers awaits us and for this reason we have equipped the Campania Alpine Rescue with satellite radio to make possible and speed up communications for rescue in impervious environments. I thank the President of the Campania Alpine Rescue Girolamo Galasso, the Vice President Giovanni Maiurano my guardian angel and the station chief Alessandro De Cristofaro for their constant closeness.”
