According to the investigations, which began in 2019, the suspects smuggled large quantities of alcohol that they then illegally stored in three factories (seized by the Gdf) where it was decolorized, bottled and sealed with counterfeit state monopolies bands, to then be sold to the detriment of consumer health. The alcohol was transported in tanks towed by articulated trucks with foreign license plates and accompanied by documentation attesting to a different nomenclature (antifreeze or disinfectant liquid) of the product actually contained; the drugs were hidden inside spare parts for sanitary fixtures; the cigarettes, coming from Campania, were transported in the luggage of passengers traveling on inter-regional buses, or hidden in cars driven by people with no criminal record.
The financial police have ascertained that the suspects have stolen taxes (excise duties) for 800 thousand euros from the state coffers. The military also seized 81.540 liters of contraband alcohol, 660 grams of cocaine, 95 kilos of cigarettes; a gun found stolen in 2018 from a security guard, and 58 prepaid credit cards of stolen origin.
