Napoli – A step forward for the rebirth of Napoli East: The extension of Via Boccaperti, a road just 190 meters long, was inaugurated this morning. For the first time, it directly connects the two public beaches of San Giovanni a Teduccio, previously separated by the former wastewater treatment plant managed by ABC. The opening of the new section, celebrated in the presence of the mayor, Gaetano Manfredi, by the Infrastructure Councilor Edoardo Cosenza, by the city councilors Ciro Borriello and Aniello Esposito, by the president of the VI Municipality Alessandro Fucito and by the leaders of ABC, represents a fundamental step towards restoring easier and more inclusive access to the sea for citizens.
The extension of Via Boccaperti, just over 4 meters wide and featuring a pedestrian sidewalk, bypasses the obstacle posed by the former sewage treatment plant, which over the years had interrupted the continuity between the road and the San Giovanni beach towards Pietrarsa. Until now, the only public access to the lido was through the pedestrian underpass at Vico I Marina, an inconvenient solution, especially for those with mobility issues. Thanks to the moving back of the ABC plant fence and the restoration of the original route, the new vehicular path not only facilitates access to the beach, but also facilitates the arrival of service and security vehicles. The project, carried out by ABC on behalf of the Municipality's Soil Protection and Reclamation Service, was made possible thanks to a detailed investigation involving the Ministry of the Environment, the ASL Napoli 1 Centro, the ISPRA (Italian National Institute of Environmental Protection), and the National Institute of Health, culminating in the authorization of August 5, 2025. The road, classified for public use on August 20, was completed with the renovation of the lighting, the installation of new signage, and the resurfacing of the road, all of which were handled by ABC under the service contracts with the Municipality. Maintenance of the route will now be entrusted to the VI Municipality.
