The uniform of the women's team of the "Volleyball Ponticelli” was dedicated to the Ospedale del Mare in Ponticelli (a neighborhood in the east of Naples) in homage to the healthcare workers who are facing the pandemic, to thank them for the work they are doing.

The T-shirt was delivered to Dr. Maria Corvino, health director of ASL Napoli 1 Centro, and Dr. Lucia Fortini, Councilor for Social Policies of the Campania Region.

"We are in the midst of the third wave, every day the newspapers report that the number of Covid patients hospitalized is growing - says Gerardo Amato, president of the "Nuova Polisportiva Ponticelli" -. We thought of paying homage to all the healthcare workers who have been tirelessly engaged on the front lines against Covid for more than a year. The new uniform of our women's team wants to bring a little hope, as well as wanting to underline the closeness between sport and healthcare".

“The pattern of the t-shirts is inspired by the windows of the hall of the Ospedale del Mare – continues Carmen Terracciano, manager of the company -. In a difficult moment like the one we are experiencing, this hospital structure has been fundamental for the Ponticelli neighborhood and the surrounding areas. Therefore, the Polisportiva wanted to pay homage to it, just as it wanted to celebrate the important work carried out by the Basilica – Santuario di Maria SS. Della Neve through the patterns of the uniforms of the men's team”.

“Grit, energy, young people, sport, unity and team spirit, this is where we need to start again – declares Councilor Fortini -. I firmly believe that the Campania Region must focus and invest more and more resources in city and suburban sports organizations. Sport and the values associated with it represent the emblem of a healthy, competitive and forward-looking civil society. Associations like this one in Ponticelli do extraordinary work that must be encouraged and supported. In addition to teaching principles such as sacrifice, loyalty and hard work, all the operators, with their commitment, offer important opportunities to many young people who recognize in them a fundamental point of reference”.

“On behalf of the Medical Management of the PO Ospedale del Mare, as well as the Company Management of the ASL Napoli 1 center, I express my heartfelt thanks for this initiative in recognition of the work carried out by all the healthcare workers of the PO Ospedale del Mare for the Ponticelli neighborhood,” says Dr. Corvino.
