Edurne Portela guest of the Instituto Cervantes. Wednesday 14 April, dialogue with Paola Gorla in live streaming
Telling stories to bring to light the dark aspects that society denies and hides is one of the goals of the writer and journalist Edurne Portela, guest of the Instituto Cervantes in Naples on Wednesday 14 April at 18 pm.
The Basque writer in dialogue with the Hispanist Paola Laura Gorla of the University of Naples L'Orientale will address issues related to ethical literature and her research work, focused on the study of violence and its representations in contemporary culture. After the meeting with the Italian-American publisher Sandro Ferri, the second appointment of the literary cycle promoted by the Instituto Cervantes in April features the author of the novel Formas de estar lejos, winner of the Gremio de librerías de Madrid in 2018. In this dialogue – with simultaneous translation Spanish/Italian – Edurne Portela will talk to us about indifference, which fueled ETA's terrorism, to which she dedicated both the essay El eco de los disparos: Cultura y memoria de la violencia and the award-winning novel Mejor la ausencia.
A conversation focused on ethical literature, that is, when a writer deals with observing the dynamics that govern the entire human community to the point of probing the most hidden folds in which man's most evil instinct nests. When the story coincides with the idea of bringing to light - as a form of denunciation - all those dark aspects that society tends to deny and hide, since only through a collective awareness can the cure be found.
