Former Poggioreale slaughterhouse, feline colony devastated by tumors. Asl Veterinary checks begin

After the inspection and the complaints of the Regional Councillor of Europa Verde Francesco Emilio Borrelli on the disastrous conditions of the area of former slaughterhouse In Poggioreale, reduced to a gigantic open-air landfill, and on the colony of cats suffering from cancer, the first interventions have begun by Asia which is planning to clear the area of the most bulky and dangerous waste

“The colony of cats that lives behind the former slaughterhouse in Poggioreale has fallen ill with various forms of cancer, probably due to the precarious hygienic conditions of the area and the discharges of special waste that I identified during an inspection carried out together with the volunteers who assist the feline colony. Several specimens show evident malformations due to their unhealthy state of health. Some are also pregnant and continue to carry their pregnancies in this hell. Over time, a huge illegal landfill was built in this place. A highly toxic area for our four-legged friends, but not only.

I asked for and obtained the intervention of the ASL Veterinaria and Asia, which has already carried out two interventions to begin removing the most dangerous waste. We need to catalogue the waste, many of which fall into special categories. We are talking about textile waste, plant waste, waste material, paints. Furniture, construction waste and asbestos are regularly dumped here. During the inspection we also found several dead rats. We need to understand as soon as possible if there are also dangers for human health. There are several residents who overlook the area and have the right to know what they are breathing.

We must immediately defuse this ecological bomb by cataloging and removing the waste. At the same time, we must monitor the area to prevent further spills. During the inspection, we also noticed several cars entering and exiting without any apparent reason. The entrance must be monitored with 24-hour cameras that are able to identify criminals who illegally dump their waste in order not to pay for disposal and to avoid being forced to declare the work they illegally carry out”. These are the words of the regional councilor of Europa Verde, Francesco Emilio Borrelli.
