The surprise was the visit of Napoli footballer Faouzi Ghoulam who visited this morning the autistic children who were vaccinated this morning in the dedicated center of the second Polyclinic of Naples.
On the World Autism Awareness Day, the Italian soccer player who is recovering from surgery did not want to miss out on his closeness to disabled kids by giving away autographed Napoli jerseys. Great joy in courses also for parents and doctors who are Italian fans.
"We dedicated the International Autism Awareness Day to autistic children and all people with disabilities. We come from a difficult year for everyone and even more so for them because for many people with disabilities the lockdown turns the house into a prison". This is what Paola Magri, disability representative of the university hospital company, said. Frederick II of Naples, presents the Blue Days of Health, with hundreds of autistic and disabled children and teenagers who have had specialist visits with dedicated clinics of ophthalmology, dentistry, otorhinolaryngology, gynecology, pediatric gastroenterology, cardiology and neuropsychiatry, but will also take the rapid serological test in a festive environment.

“With Covid – Magri underlines – there is also a fallout on health because the fear of contagion has slowed down everyone's access to care and even more so the access of a disabled person to care. For this reason, today we inaugurated the reduction of the waiting list and our laboratories will give a preferential lane to people with disabilities. Even on vaccinations here at the Policlinico we administer them to people with disabilities on special days, for example today our teenagers who attend the pediatrics department had their dose in the same rooms where they are normally treated, in a more usual and familiar situation”. The day was born on the initiative of Angsa, the association of parents of children with autism: “When we presented the project – explains Claudia Nicchiniello, president of Angsa Campania – the general director of the university company Anna Iervolino immediately understood that in this moment of Covid many hospital companies have slowed down outpatient visits but for our children they are very important. Now we will bring this project to all the Regions and I am proud that it was immediately welcomed by the Neapolitan hospital company".
The pandemic has made life more difficult for parents of autistic children: “Our children,” explains Nicchiniello, “shun social situations, they have not suffered from the lack of appointments such as pizza, cinema or crowded places. But a certain home support has been lacking and even many day and semi-day centers with recreational activities for them and that provided relief to the family have been blocked.” A stop for thousands of people, as Magri emphasizes: “We have 31 reference centers and regional hubs,” he says, “for rare and chronic diseases and we treat their patients who, in addition to the general pediatrician, know the Policlinico because here they have the multi-specialist team that takes care of them. We are talking about huge numbers: the incidence of autism is currently 1 in 68 births, there is an exponential increase to which we must add all the children and teenagers with cognitive and relational disabilities we reach. These are numbers that are difficult to quantify. These days are also important for the training mission of the University Hospital: we have involved the specialists and the students of the nursing school, who can take care of people with disabilities right from their training course and be able to respond to all the patients they will have in their career”.
