165 people checked, 2 of whom were investigated, 780 kg of Copper and 1.020 kg of exhausted batteries recovered in the operation “Red Gold” ordered yesterday on a national scale by the Railway Police Service to combat the phenomenon of copper thefts in the railway sector, and implemented by the Railway Police Department with administrative and accounting checks at 28 companies involved in the disposal, collection and transport of ferrous materials and scrap throughout the regional territory.
In the province of Naples, during checks inside a warehouse in the Grumo Nevano area, 780 kg of copper cables belonging to FS Italiane were found. The copper was seized pending the decisions of the Judicial Authority.
In another deposit, 1.020 kg of spent batteries were found in Sant'Anastasia. The material was seized and the administrator was reported for illegal waste management and receiving stolen goods.
Finally, in Aversa a man was reported for aggravated theft because, in the previous days, he had been responsible for the theft of copper cables kept inside the Frattamaggiore station.
