Neglect, degradation and abandonment do not only affect the streets but also the monuments of the city of Napoli.

The situation especially of the monumental fountains is quite complicated, as the Campania Greens report. Among the critical issues reported is that of the Fontana del Giant on via Cesario Console, covered by vegetation and weeds, as a citizen also wrote to the Regional Councilor of Europa Verde Francesco Emilio Borrelli: “Mr. Borrelli, the Fontana del Gigante is covered by vegetation. That branch grows more and more.”

"We have asked the Municipality of Naples for maintenance interventions, as we have always done, but it seems that the protection of our historical and artistic heritage is not among the priorities, as it should be. It is sad and painful to witness such abandonment, we do not accept it. We are preparing a dossier on the city monuments that require special attention and interventions before the situation becomes irreparable." - explains Borrelli.

“In reality, the problem affects almost all the fountains in the city, which have not been maintained for 15 years, since the period from 2000 to 2005, when the Greens were in charge of the environmental service and the environmental department of the Municipality of Naples, and 40 fountains were overhauled.

Now everything is left to decay and abandonment, it is not a question of budget, it is a question of will, if the Municipality does not have the means to provide for the maintenance and restoration of the monumental fountains that it entrusts them to entities or associations.
