Olesya is not Denise Pipitone: the Russian lead fades away

After many doubts, now there is a certainty. Olesya Rostova's blood type does not match Denise Pipitone's.

Hopes that the 20-year-old Russian woman—who turned to the Russian TV1 talk show "Let Them Talk" to find her family—is actually the little girl who mysteriously disappeared from Marzara del Vallo in 2004 have faded. This was announced by Giacomo Frazzitta, the lawyer representing the little girl's mother, Piera Maggio, who did not appear on the show because she is recovering from surgery. "We are very sorry, but the blood type does not match Denise's," the lawyer announced during the talk show, taped yesterday afternoon.

The results of the young Russian's blood tests arrived 24 hours ago by email to the lawyer Frazzitta, who had made it a condition for participating in the program that he knew the results of the tests before his surgery. And with the communication from Oleysa's lawyer came yet another disappointment for Piera Maggio who has been looking for her missing daughter for 17 years without ever giving up.

This evening's episode of "Let's Talk About It", in which Piera Maggio's lawyer, Giacomo Frazzitta, took part, after a tug-of-war with the Russian production, was in fact preceded, on Tuesday, by an episode entirely dedicated to Olesya in which the story of the disappearance of Denise has been widely used to create anticipation and mount an international scandal. In reality, another family, a Russian one, was present in the studio and immediately after Olesya's appeal they came forward to claim a possible compatibility, a story that had already leaked to a local newspaper in the Arkhangelsk region. This did not prevent Channel One from going ahead and organizing - in a fake live broadcast, since the program is recorded - the comparison of DNA between Olesya and the aspiring mother, Valentina Kharyov.

In the studio, Olesya sat next to her, called her “mommy,” and the two women anxiously awaited the result, hand in hand. But it didn’t work out. So we moved on to phase two, namely the Denise Pipitone chapter. “We thought it was right to send a note to the Marsala Public Prosecutor’s Office, which will evaluate whether to proceed with further investigations,” Frazzitta said regarding Olesya’s blood type. An act that was necessary, evidently. Also to underline the different approach taken by Denise’s family to the matter. On TV, not surprisingly, a surreal sketch took place between Frazzitta himself and the host of the show, Dmitriy Borisov. When it finally came to the crunch, in fact, Borisov had a sealed envelope brought to the studio containing the results of Olesya's blood type: at that point Frazzitta would have to communicate Denise's and, amidst the suspense of shots and various moves, the fate of these two families would finally be revealed. But it didn't end there.

Piera Maggio's lawyer actually refused and demanded the opposite procedure. Moral of the story, after several minutes of uncertainty and bickering, the one who resolved everything was the Rai correspondent in Moscow, Marc Innaro, invited among the participants in the broadcast, who lent his cell phone to Borisov and the information was finally communicated. So it was Frazzitta who revealed that the two groups do not coincide, even if at the end of the episode in the studio, in Moscow, the hypothesis was instead aired that the test carried out at the time on Denise could be incorrect and therefore there is the need to proceed with the DNA comparison anyway. But Denise's family has already said that they will not lend themselves.

“To say that it was a trash show is an understatement. They wanted to expose the pain and broken lives of people without any respect. I agreed to go on that show and show my face only because we wanted to know the truth right away,” explained lawyer Frazzitta: “that’s enough now.” At the moment it seems that Denise’s search must start again from the start box. Olesya’s, however, continues. Probably on (fake) live TV.

“The Marsala Prosecutor's Office will evaluate further investigations. It was necessary to know the blood type as soon as possible to investigate further”, added the lawyer in a note published on the Twitter profile of 'Chi l'ha visto'. The Rai3 program has followed Denise's case from the very beginning, tenaciously pursuing various leads that have emerged over the years. Less respectful and attentive, for Piera Maggio's lawyer, was the approach of the Tv1 program. “You wanted to make a show, this seems absurd to me”, said lawyer Frazzitta during the program on Olesya's case aired this evening in Russia. The debate then turned into a lively discussion and the lawyer accused the host of having set “a trap” for him by inviting him into the studio and calling it a “mockery” – the presenter's statement, which came only at the end of the episode almost as if it were a reality show – that Olesya's blood type was different from Denise Pipitone's.
