Market workers protest, motorway blockade removed after 10 hours

After almost ten hours, the block built in the Caserta section of the A1 Rome-Naples by the operators market them, who received reassurances from the delegation that went to Rome about a meeting that will be held tomorrow in the capital between workers' representatives and the Government.

“It was a tough day,” says Peppe Magliocca, president of Ana-Ugl CASERTA, the street vendors’ union that organized the protest. “I apologize again to citizens and law enforcement for the inconvenience caused, but it was necessary to launch a protest of this kind to raise awareness of our category, which hasn’t worked for almost two months and is now exhausted.

We hope that tomorrow from Rome there will be positive news on the reopening of fairs and markets but also in relation to the payment of the tosap, the tax for occupation of municipal land; paying it without having worked is a loss for us”. Officials from the CASERTA police headquarters and the prefecture mediated with the protesters. The protest took place near the CASERTA Sud junction, with several hundred vans blocking traffic in both directions. Mandatory exits were set up to bypass the block, with queues and slowdowns for the entire day.
