They Kill 70 Birds and Post the Video on Facebook: The Massacre of Endangered Animals Goes Viral on Social Media

The Investigative Unit of the Environmental, Agri-food and Forestry Police of Caserta, in collaboration with the military of the Marcianise Forestry Station and the Biodiversity Group of Caserta, has executed the order for the application of the personal precautionary measure of the ban on residence in the province of Caserta issued by the investigating judge at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Naples North, against DA, a 49-year-old resident of Villa Literno, and CL, a 39-year-old resident of Teverola, with the prescription to the suspects to immediately leave the territory of Terra di Lavoro and not to return there without the authorization of the judicial authority.

The two men, in fact, are considered seriously suspected of having caused, in collusion with each other, with cruelty and without necessity, the death of over 70 birds, including eight specimens of Shelduck, scientific name “Tadorna Tadorna”, a protected species since 1992, as it is considered to be in danger of extinction. This massacre of wild birds was immortalized in a video, made by the same suspects, where the two poachers boasted of having committed the crime by proceeding to spread the film, publishing it on Facebook and on numerous Whatsapp groups, thus forwarding it to a multitude of hunters.

The expressions used by the suspects are not only of mere exaltation of what has been committed, but also tend to induce others to similar actions, where in the video reference is made to hunting trips that the suspects propose to do together with other hunters, to greetings to "friends" and the ease with which it was possible to kill so many birds in a single night, uttering the phrases "nothing went wrong... everything went perfect".
