Votes in exchange for food parcels: a city councilor, an accountant and two others arrested in Torre del Greco.

Today, in Torre del Greco, the Carabinieri of the local Company executed a precautionary order issued by the Judge for preliminary investigations of the Court of Torre Annunziata at the request of this Public Prosecutor's Office, against 5 individuals seriously suspected of the crime of criminal association aimed at committing the crimes referred to in art. 86 DPR 570/1960, through the systematic buying and selling of votes during the administrative elections of the Municipality of Torre del Greco in June 2018.

The precautionary measures carried out - 4 applications of house arrest and 1 of a ban on residing in the municipality of Torre del Greco represent the completion of an investigative activity that already in April 2019 had led to the arrest of several individuals (4 subjected to pre-trial detention in prison and 4 subjected to house arrest) belonging to a criminal association aimed at buying and selling votes in favor of the candidate for ABILITATO municipal councilor Stefano, later elected, in relation to which some sentences of conviction have already occurred, two of which are definitive. The investigations that led to the issuance of the precautionary orders executed today, conducted by the Carabinieri of the Operations Section of the Torre del Greco Company and coordinated by this Public Prosecutor's Office, have made it possible to ascertain the existence and operation of a further and different criminal organization aimed, on the occasion of the last administrative electoral consultations of Torre del Greco, at the buying and selling of votes in favor of the candidate BUONO Mario, subsequently elected, and of the related civic list "Forza Torre" by an undetermined number of voters, in exchange for foodstuffs and cash donations or offers and promises of jobs within the regional projects called "Garanzia Giovani" and "Fila".

Also with reference to this further criminal association - as already ascertained for the one which was the object of the previous precautionary order - a central role was found to have been played by the accountant MAGLIACANO Simone, who, as emerged from the investigations, was able to create various networks of complicity and collusion for the buying and selling of votes.
Among the recipients of the precautionary measure of house arrest, in addition to the aforementioned MAGLIACANO and the municipal councilor BUONO Mario, are SAVASTANO Gennaro and IZZO Vincenzo, who allegedly dealt with the buying and selling of votes, with offers of money and food to citizens of Torre del Greco.
The aforementioned IZZO, during the same 2018 electoral campaign, had been the protagonist of an attack against ABILITATO Stefano, in order to prevent him from freely exercising his political rights and, in particular, to hinder his electoral campaign activity in one of the districts of Torre del Greco (an incident for which a trial is currently being held before the Court of Torre Annunziata, in which Izzo is accused of the crime under art. 294 of the Criminal Code).
The precautionary measure of the ban on residence in the municipality of Torre del Greco was issued against MELLUSO Gianluca, also responsible for the buying and selling of votes.
