Genoa. The young Ligurian woman who suffered from thrombosis after the Astrazeneca vaccine has died.

She had been vaccinated with AstraZeneca on May 25 as part of the “open weeks” organized by the Liguria Region for viral vector vaccines for the population between 18 and 60 years old.

The girl, on Thursday 3 June, had arrived at the emergency room complaining of a severe headache and photophobia, and had undergone a brain CT scan and neurological tests, both of which were negative.
Then, on Saturday, June 5th, she returned to San Martino with motor deficits on both sides. At that point, a CT scan revealed a hemorrhage from cavernous sinus thrombosis, and she was transferred to neurosurgery. On Sunday, she underwent double surgery to remove the clot and reduce intracranial pressure, but ultimately, nothing could be done. After two more days of fighting, still in a coma, she died.
The possible causal link between the administration of the AstraZeneca vaccine, which the girl had received on May 25, is still to be clarified. In the meantime, the Genoese Polyclinic had already activated all the pharmacovigilance procedures, also communicating to AIFA the pharmacological therapies taken by the girl in conjunction with the vaccine.
Sestri Levante, the town where Camilla Canepa lived, mourns her passing. The young woman should have taken her final exams this year. “A sunny girl, like all her age, and a family well known in Sestri. It is difficult to achieve something like this, we express all our closeness to the family,” explained the mayor of the town, Valentina Ghio, who remembered the girl on her Facebook page. Today, at the news of her passing, all of Sestri Levante stopped, gathering in silent respect around the family. All the initiatives related to the first day of the Andersen festival in Sestri were also cancelled.
The girl's family has given permission for the removal of her organs. The Genoa prosecutor's office, which is in charge of investigating the case, opened a case against unknown persons two days ago for acts that do not constitute a crime: in the next few hours, to allow for further investigation, the title of the case was changed, still against unknown persons but with the hypothesis of manslaughter. In all likelihood, the coroner will be assigned the task of performing an autopsy on the young woman's body in the next few hours.

Meanwhile, this morning, following the reports of two adverse reactions (one involving Camilla Canepa and another woman hospitalized at San Martino), Alisa had instructed all vaccination centers in Liguria, as a precaution, to suspend, until further notice, "the administration of the AstraZeneca vaccine batch ABX1506, if available." A survey has been launched to verify any stocks of the affected batch at vaccination centers in Liguria.
